Two of the miners taking part in an underground strike at the Burgas-based Cherno More Mine (Mina Cherno More Burgas EAD) have been taken to hospital, according to a trade union representative.

Rostislav Radukov, representative of the “Podkrepa” Labor Confederation at the mine, made clear Thursday that one of the miners was suffering from a heart condition, while the other man had had a hypertensive crisis.

Radukov, as cited by the Focus news agency, informed that a total of 59 people were underground.

The strike at the mine continues in its second day.

The miners have spent over 30 hours 300m below ground level.

The protest started Thursday morning, when the 43 miners who had worked the night shift refused to surface.

Two of them were taken out of the pit due to health issues, but another 20 miners from the day shift joined the underground strike of their colleagues.

The miners demand their unpaid salaries for two months.

Dimitar Kuyumdzhiev, representative of the Ministry of Economy and Energy, announced Thursday that the miners at the Burgas-based mine would be paid their salaries for July, adding that the company would be transferred a total of BGN 270 000 by Friday at the latest.
