Workers at the Bobov Dol coal mine have announced they will also hold a strike, the Bulgarian National Radio has reported.

They have vowed to move in lockstep with colleagues at the Cherno More-Burgas mine, where protest action is now in its second day.

For over 35 hours, personnel from the Wednesday-Thursday night shift have remained underground, refusing to exit the pit until they receive two months' wages.

Workers from the daily shift followed on Thursday afternoon.

Two miners have been forced out from the Burgas-based Cherno More mine, reportedly in critical condition, as of Friday noon. Rescuers say one of them has a heart problem, while the other one is suffering from hypertension.

Mine officials have warned conditions at a depth of 300 km, but also 4 km from the entrance, could carry risks to health.

Increased humidity and dust does not seem to dissuade miners, however, as more are expected to climb down later on Friday.
