One third of the money, withdrawn from Bulgarian banks in June was deposited back in the banks, shows data of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).

During the bank panic in June, depositors withdrew BGN 1.043 B, which was somewhat of an anomaly, considering that in the past few years, the households saved in banks between BGN 3 B and 5 B per year.

A total of BGN 369 M were deposited back in the banks in July. A small part of the remaining BGN 674 M was spent, shows data of the National Statistics Institute, which reports a deflation of 1% in July, year-on-year.

Part of the withdrawn sums was deposited in foreign banks, some of the money was put in safes. Other depositors broke up their large deposits in smaller parts of EUR 100 000 and put them in different banks, according to bankers, quoted by Mediapool.bg.

They expect that when the situation calms down, the remaining money will be put back in the banks as well.
