Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki on Wednesday pledged there will be no purges in the administration.

Bliznashki took over from his predecessor Plamen Oresharski at a special ceremony in the government building in Sofia.

The interim premier highlighted three priority areas lying ahead of his cabinet: holding free and fair elections in October, restoring confidence towards Bulgaria among the country’s partners in the EU and NATO, and launching key reforms.

The snap vote should produce results that no one will dispute and everyone will accept, he added.

“It’s necessary to restore the confidence of civil society in political institutions,” Bliznashki pointed out. “Our caretaker government will do everything to ensure elections are held with the active participation of civil society.”
