Bulgaria Faces Rising Fuel Prices as Middle East Conflict Pushes Costs Higher

Bulgaria's producer price index on the domestic market recorded a slight increase by 0.1% in May compared to the previous month.
The domestic prices rose in the mining and quarrying industry by 1.7% and in the electricity, gas, and steam supply by 0.1%, while in the manufacturing the prices remain at the level of the previous month, the National Statistical Institute data shows.
The producer price index on the domestic market in May 2014 decreased by 0.7% compared to the same month of 2013. The domestic prices fell in the mining and quarrying industry by 6.9% and in the electricity, gas,steam and air conditioning supply by 1.1%, while in the manufacturing there was no price change.
In the manufacturing compared to May 2013, a price decrease was registered in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 9.8%,in the manufacture of basic metals by 4.6%, and in the manufacture of food products by 4.5%.
A price increase was seen in the manufacture of tobacco products by 8.4%, of motor vehicles - by 5.3% and in the manufacture of paper and paper products by 3.5%.
The total producer price index in industry in May 2014 increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month. Higher prices were registered in the mining and quarrying industry by 2.1% and in the manufacturing by 0.3%, while in the electricity, gas, and steam supply the prices fell by 0.1%.

More significant prices decreases were seen in the manufacture of basic metals by 6.3%, in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 5.1%, and in the manufacture of food products by 4.3%, while the producer prices rose in the manufacture of tobacco products by 5.3%, beverages - by 2.2%, and furniture - by 2.1%.
