The Sofia Appellate Court refused to alleviate the remand measure of house arrest of Oktay Enimehmedov, the man who attacked the honorary lifetime Chairman of DPS Ahmed Dogan.

On January 19, 2013, Enimehmedov pointed a gun at Ahmed Dogan while he was delivering his resignation speech at a party conference.

In end-February 2014, the Sofia City Court sentenced him to 3.5 years of imprisonment for a murder threat to the honorary chair of liberal party DPS (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) and acquitted him of attempted murder charges.

In mid-March 2014, the Sofia Appellate Court released him under a remand measure of house arrest.

Enimehmedov asked the judge panel on Wednesday for a lighter remand measure but his request was rejected.

He told journalists that he was considering taking part in the upcoming early elections as an independent MP candidate, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Enimehmedov first announced his intentions of going into politics in March 2014, saying that he wanted to become MP or a government official.

In May 2014, the motives of the judges for Enimehmedov's verdict were published. The judges said that he could not have possibly intended to kill Dogan.

The prosecuting authority protested the part of the saying that there was no evidence of attempted murder.

Enimehmedov's defender, Boryana Avramova, specified that the examination of the substance of his case was to take place in October.
