Twenty Syrian refugees are to assist in managing the consequences of flash floods that struck the city of Varna and other places in northeast and north-central Bulgaria.
The group of refugees based in a camp near the southern town of Harmanli is to set off within days and numbers of volunteers applying to help.
Their offer comes as the ranks of those willing to go to to Varna generally thinned down when the workweek started.
Harmanli camp authorities told daily 24 Chasa that only residents who have been granted refugee status are entitled to enlist themselves as volunteers.
A volunteer corps was set up in the camp earlier in June to respond to crises.
On Saturday, a celebration to mark the World Refugee Day was canceled due to the disaster which took at least 13 lives, twelve in Varna's Asparuhovo district and one in Dobrich. That was when a group of Syrians decided to help.
"Bulgaria gave us shelter when we were in trouble. Now we are obliged to repay their kindness," a refugee whose name is not disclosed told the daily.
