Boyko Borisov, leader of center-right party GERB, has said he is ready for a second term in office as Prime Minister.

Borisov, who was on a one-week visit to the US, gave a press conference at Sofia Airport on Sunday.

He said that he was best prepared to become Prime Minister if center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) won the early elections and managed to create a government.

Borisov added he would give up the post provided that a more suitable candidate showed up.

Commenting on the upcoming sitting of the Consultative Council on National Security on Tuesday, which is to include debates on the early elections, the South Stream gas pipeline, and the EU funds freeze, he emphasized that there was no possibility for consensus.

The leader of GERB noted that the possibilities for reaching consensus with the ruling parties had ended with the election of the members of the National Audit Office despite the strong opposition of the center-right party.

Borisov, as cited by Darik radio, suggested that Bulgaria was in a state of catastrophe, adding that ten years would not suffice to undo the damage.

He suggested that the government was trying to collect the money of state-owned companies by Monday.

He accused the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski of decapitalizing companies and forcing them into bankruptcy.

Borisov claimed that these steps were called zugzwang in chess, adding that Bulgaria had no opportunity for a beneficial move and any move would be disadvantageous.

He said that the option of the Oresharski Cabinet resigning, only to remain in office as an outgoing Cabinet for another two months, was an absurd scenario.

Borisov urged the prosecuting authority to initiate a self-referral over the recent activities of the socialist-led government, adding that they had brought about a national catastrophe and had to be investigated by prosecutors.

Borisov underscored that he would not engage in talks with the ruling parties on Tuesday unless the government resigned immediately, having withdrawn their appointments from the National Audit Office before that.

He said that Bulgaria appeared "disgusting" from abroad, as well as unstable, unpredictable, and undecided between East and West.
