Bulgaria's Borissov: Eurozone Entry Is My Mission—What Comes Next, Only God Knows
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reaffirmed his commitment to guiding Bulgaria into the eurozone, stating that nothing would divert him from this goal
GERB's motives for a no-confidence vote on the government's energy policy are hypocritical, claimed Socialist MP Krasimir Yankov.
"Why didn't those who submitted today's vote (GERB) listen to the people when they were in power? Was DKEVR (the state energy watchdog) functioning independently and legally defending the interests of the citizens then?", Yankov asked rhetorically during Wednesday's parliamentary debates on the no-confidence motion submitted by the GERB party.
He was referring to last year's protests against the government of Boyko Borisov, which were motivated by high utility prices and targeted at the monopoly of the foreign electricity companies.
Yankov defined the accusations that the government is asserting pressure over DKEVR's decisions as false.
"The arbitrary nonpayment of the electricity distribution companies (EVN, CEZ, Energo-Pro) to the national electricity company NEK, is a breach of the law and a threat to Bulgaria's national security. Revoking their licenses is stipulated in the law as a possible measure. We live under the rule-of-law, which also applies to monopolies", the Socialist deputy added.
The no-confidence vote against the cabinet of Plamen Oresharski for its energy policies will take place on Thursday.
