Hotel prices have increased across Europe in May, according to the monthly Hotel Price Index released by hotel search site trivago.
Based on the 50 most popular European cities on trivago.co.uk, one night in May will cost an average of GBP 110 which is a 12% increase compared to April.
Copenhagen hotel prices have increased by up to 63% year-on-year for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. A standard double room will cost an average of GBP 246, which a GBP 95 increase on an annual basis.
The current price of a standard double room in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday 24th May, for the Champions League final, is an average of GBP 1,171 which is an astounding 1202% increase from the monthly average during April, which was just GBP 90 per night.
With availability currently at just 6%, visitors will struggle to find affordable accommodation in Lisbon on 24th May.
In Bulgaria, price fluctuation is almost unnoticeable as the average cost of accommodation has dropped by 5% per month and 4% per year. During the long May holidays many Bulgarians have chosen to take a short break abroad. According to the study of trivago.bg, the most popular destinations for the period among Bulgarian consumers were Istanbul, Rome and Prague, Dnevnik informs.
The most considerable price drop is recorded in the mountain resort of Borovets where at the end of the winter season the average price decreased by 19% and reached BGN 86 per night for a double room. In the major cities in the country hotel prices increased slightly - by 4% in the Black Sea city of Burgas, 3% in Veliko Tarnovo, and 2% in the capital city of Sofia, while resorts saw price drops of 17% in Pamporovo, 14% in the Golden Sands, and 4% in the Sunny Beach.
