A total of 2768 accidents and incidents at work happened in 2013 in Bulgaria, the number of victims being 92.

On April 28, the International Labor Organization (ILO) celebrates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. April 28 is also a day in which the world's trade union movement holds its international Commemoration Day for Dead and injured Workers to honour the memory of victims of occupational accidents and diseases.

According to statistics of Bulgaria's National Social Security Institute, as cited by dnevnik.bg, occupational accidents dropped by 8.6% on the year in 2013 but the number of deaths increased.

In 2012, the number of occupational fatalities fell by 10, according to Bulgaria's National Social Security Institute.

According to ILO statistics, some 250-300 million occupational accidents occur on an annual basis.

A large part of the accidents, however, remain unreported or are not recognized as workplace accidents.

Bulgarian trade union Labor Confederation "Podkrepa" starts a campaign on Friday to commemorate the victims of occupational accidents. The trade union has organized the planting of 92 trees across the country and the inauguration of a memorial plaque in Sofia.
