Russia will not pull out of the four-party talks on the Ukraine crisis scheduled for Thursday in Geneva, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed.

"The meeting remains on the agenda. We are extremely hopeful that the efforts being used now, and including those by the Russian administration, will take effect and any use of force against the protesters (in eastern Ukraine) will cease", Lavrov stated, cited by RIA Novosti.

The talks in Geneva are to take place on Thursday. They will be attended by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchitsya, in an effort to de-escalate the crisis in Ukraine.

Lavrov's comments dispel speculations that Russia could boycott the talks following Kiev's decision to conduct a military operation against the pro-Russian demonstrators who have occupied government buildings in a number of eastern Ukrainian cities.
