Siemens to Provide Equipment for Part of South Stream

Germany's concern Siemens is to provide the electrical systems and control and measurement apparatus for the offshore section of the South Stream.
A statement by Russian energy concern Gazprom quoted by ITAR-TASS agency suggests that the deal struck between South Stream Transport B.V. and Siemens AG refers to the sea segments of the gas pipeline which are to be built near Bulgaria and Russia's coastline.
Siemens will also be in charge of supplying the equipment for South Stream Transport's dispatcher workstations. Gazprom, which is the main shareholder (50%) in South Stream Transport B.V., did not mention the sum it is to pay for the deal.
The South Stream's offshore section will comprise four threads, each of them 930 km long.
In march, South Stream Transport signed a deal with Italy's Saipem S.p.A. (a subsidiary of energy giant Eni, which also has a share in the South Stream company) to start construction of the first thread.
