Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is to take part in the EU-Africa summit, which will be held April 2 and 3.

Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin will also participate in the event, Bulgaria's CROSS news agency has reported.

Plevneliev is heading for Brussels as early as April 1, as he is due to meet European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Parliament's President Martin Schulz, and Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn.

EU-Africa summit is expected to discuss cooperation in key fields such as agriculture, energy, trade and climate studies and will look into ways to promote developments in Africa's rising private sector.

Education and investment aimed at tacking unemployment will also be on the agenda.

Leaders of some top African economies, such as South African President Jacob Zuma, have said they will boycott the summit.

Zuma accused Brussels of trying to decide which African politicians could attend.

His comments came after it was announced that Zimbabwe's head of state Robert Mugabe would miss the summit as his wife was denied a EU visa.

South Africa did not confirm wheter Zuma's decision was an act of solidarity with Mugabe.
