Center-right party GERB will seek victory at the upcoming European Parliament elections in May, according to Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Deputy Chair of GERB and former Interior Minister.

Tsvetanov was re-elected Sunday for a new term as Deputy Chair of former ruling party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria). During Sunday's national congress of GERB, the party added two more Deputy Chairs, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.

Tsvetanov presented a report of the party's achievements, boasting about seven electoral victories and stressing that GERB had weathered a smear campaign on the eve of Election Day in 2013 in connection with the unaccounted-for ballots discovered at the printing house in Kostinbrod.

He predicted that GERB would win the largest number of MEPs after the EP elections in May and hinted at ambitions for early elections in 2014.

Bulgaria's former Interior Minister underscored that it would be the first time for GERB to appear at elections as an oppositional force.

Tsvetanov suggested that the outcome of the EP elections would determine GERB's goals for the next general elections.

He vowed to keep working the same way.

Following Sunday's congress of GERB, Tsvetanov was assigned organizational responsibilities, Fandakova was placed in charge of culture and education, while Nikolov was put in charge of managing communication between municipalities.

Tsvetanov said that he would continue to be the one to sign the financial documents of the party, adding that GERB Chair Borisov, who was also reelected on Sunday, would have the final say.

He announced that the initial version of the list of candidates of GERB for the upcoming European Parliament elections would be ready by early March.
