After submitting a group resignation last week, the current socialist leadership in Bulgaria's Montana municipality declared it was leaving the party.

On Wednesday they announced that 75% (108 party organizations) of the municipal organization of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) in the northwestern city of Montana, the majority of the municipal councilors and the entire youth organization of the party were leaving it and were joining the national movement ABV (Alternative for Bulgarian Revival Movement) of ex-President and ex-leader of the socialists, Georgi Parvanov.

The announcement was made before journalists by the now-former member of the national council of BSP, Iveta Georgieva, and the now-former leader of the party's municipal council, Emil Konstantinov.

"This was hard for everyone; it is not easy to leave BSP, especially for older members, who held leadership posts for a long time," said Konstantinov.

"The leadership of the party talks the left-wing talk and walks the right-wing walk. It is liquidating local structures. Headed by Sergey Stanishev, this leadership demonstrates disdain for common members; for them we are a voiceless crowd that must approve all insinuations of the paid political apparatchiks. Stanishev is leading to party to its demise," stated Georgieva.
