Compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, in the fourth quarter of 2013, the number of newly-built residential buildings in Bulgaria was down by 15.2%.

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute, the number of these buildings was 576 – 103 fewer than in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The registered decrease of the newly-built dwellings in them was 18.9%.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, 71.0% of newly-built residential buildings were with steel-concrete construction, 26.0% were with solid structure, 2.6% were with "other" structures and 0.4% were with panel structure. In comparison with the same quarter of 2012, a decrease of the relative share of all type of buildings was observed.

Regarding the newly built residential buildings' distribution by type, houses had the highest relative share (67.3%), followed by apartment buildings (15.3%). Compared with the fourth quarter of 2012 their number has dropped by 67 and 38 respectively, while the one of the newly built country houses has risen by 9.

The highest number of residential buildings has been built in Varna region - 111 buildings with 551 dwellings in them, Burgas region - 94 residential buildings with 728 dwellings and Plovdiv region - 77 residential buildings with 264 dwellings.

The largest number of newly-built dwellings had two rooms (39.5%), followed by those with three rooms (31.7%). Compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, a decrease of all types of dwellings was registered. The structure of the housing fund with prevailing share of dwellings with two and three rooms remained unchanged.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, the total useful space of the newly-built dwellings was 192.3 thousand sq. m or by 18.5% less than in the same quarter of 2012. The living floor space has also been decreased by 16.4% and has reached 121.8 thousand sq. m.

At the same time, the average useful floor space of the newly built dwelling has increased from 83.3 sq. m in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 83.8 sq. m in the same quarter of 2013.

The biggest average useful floor space of newly-built dwellings was recorded in the Vidin region - 338.3 sq. m and Gabrovo - 149.5 sq. m, and the smallest one in the Pleven region  - 63.6 sq. m and in the Shumen region - 69.7 sq. m.
