The Bulgarian government is putting its best efforts in making a convncing nomination for new EU commissioner from the country, stated Bulgarian PM Plamen Oresharski.
Oresharski was speaking during question time in Parliament Friday, answering a question from Bulgarian Socialist Party MP Zhelyu Boychev ahead of the European Elections 2014 in May.
"The question is timely in an institutional plan. It will become fully answered after EU elections, when the results are clear not only in Bulgaria, but also in the other EU member states," said the Bulgarian PM.
"I can fully commit to the type of EU commissioner we are looking for. I would make no compromise with professional qualities needed. He or she must be a figure with good authority and knowledge and EU institutions," said Oresharski.
"It is important that Bulgaria's EU commissioner is placed in charge of an key area of EU policy, which would require the adequate level of competencies," added he.
Oresharski further stressed that the cabinet will in no way be prey to narrow partisan considerations when choosing the nomination.
