In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Bulgarian Border Police have detained ten individuals involved in migrant trafficking during a targeted operation in the Burgas area
Bulgarian border police at the Vidin-Danube Bridge-2 border crossing point detained seven Syrian nationals hidden in a truck.
The 27-year-old driver of the vehicle was also arrested, according to the press office of the Interior Ministry.
At 5.30 am on Tuesday, a Mercedes freight vehicle approached the Vidin-Danube Bridge-2 border crossing point.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, border police officers found five women and two men aged 18-32 hidden in a secret compartment.
They lacked identification documents but said they were Syrian nationals.
Five of them had been sent invitations by Bulgaria's State Agency for Refugees.
Pre-trial proceedings have been opened into the case.
