Bulgaria's Interior to Probe All Special Operations since 2009

The Inspectorate at Bulgaria's Interior Ministry is to check all police operations during which the resources of the counter-terrorism and rapid response units were used.
The inspection, which is to be conducted by a newly established committee, will span the period January 1, 2009 – December 2013.
The probe spans the last months of the term in office of Interior Minister Mihail Mikov, the entire term in office of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the first months in office of Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.
The directors of the "National " Chief Directorate of the Interior, the Sofia District Police Directorate, the District Directorate of the Interior Ministry, and the specialized counterterrorism unit had to send summaries of each and every operation conducted in the period by December 12.
The reports had to specify the date and time of the operation, the reason for using the resources of the anti-terrorism unit and the rapid response unit, the person who had proposed to deploy special police forces and the person who had approved the operation.
The ongoing probe is the first of its kind due to its comprehensive scope, according reports of to private Bulgarian TV station Nova TV, based on unnamed sources.
According to the TV station, the State Agency for National Security (DANS) will conduct an internal inspection of the entire activity of the now-defunct anti-mafia Directorate GDBOP.
