Poland Extends Helping Hand to Ukraine: Ready to Aid Return of Men of Conscription Age
Poland has announced its readiness to assist Ukraine in its conflict against Russia by facilitating the return of Ukrainian men of conscription age
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution Thursday underscoring the need for EU institutions to do more to facilitate the European integration of post-Soviet countries, including Ukraine.
The declaration explicitly condemns what MEPs call "Russian pressure" on Ukraine and Armenia, who chose not to sign an Association Agreement with the EU at the November 29 Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius.
The parliament also expressed concern at the aggravated political situation in Ukraine, condemning the use of violence against pro-EU protesters, and cautioning those in power to listen to their people.
MEPs have also pointed to the democratic possibility in any democracy to call new elections “when renewed popular legitimacy is needed."
The European Parliament has decided to send a special delegation to Ukraine, and has called other EU institutions to do so too.
MEPs have further "rejected very firmly" proposals, coming from both Ukraine and Russia, that trilateral talks be held on Ukraine's European integration.
They have expressed their disappointment of Armenia's choice to enter into a customs union with Russia, and at the same time satisfaction that progress has been made towards the association of Georgia and Moldova.
