Bulgarian students have made considerable improvements in their achievements in reading, mathematics, and sciences from 2009 on.
The results for academic achievements of students up to the age of 15 were presented in the latest report of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD.
Bulgaria is among the 10 EU member states in which considerable improvements were registered for the 3 fundamental academic skills (reading, maths, and sciences). The share of students with weak scores in these subjects has increased in 5 EU countries (Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Sweden, and Finland).
Overall, the results in the EU countries exceed those of the United States, but lag behind those of Japanese students.
The statistic is based on the percentage of students in each country with unsatisfactory results in the 3 key areas.
The goal of the EU is to drop the number of "poorly performing students" to 15% by the year 2020.
