Two families of Syrian refugees have been housed in the village of Krushevo, Bulgaria, by English citizens, residing there.

Lily Gilbert and Ian Dodds who have been living in Krushevo, municipality of Garmen, for the last 6 years, gave shelter to the immigrants, and provided them with clothing, food, and heating, bTV private TV channel reported.

The mayor of the village, Minka Kapitanova, said that the municipality of Garmen discussed the idea to use the non-functioning schools in the nearby villages for the accommodation of Syrian refugees seeking asylum.

Kapitanova explained that first the locals would be asked for their consent. Then the proposal will be voted by the Town Council, and after that - submitted to the State Agency for Refugees.

Earlier, Amnesty International has alarmed that there has been a „dramatic“ increase in the number of refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants coming into Bulgaria this year, mainly from Syria.
