Kiev may witness its most numerous anti-government protest on Sunday, when tens of thousands are expected to turn out.

The Ukrainian capital has been the scene of rallies and demonstrations against the President Viktor Yanukovich for over a week, ever since the leadership announced its plans to postpone the signing of the EU Association Agreement.

“This may even be bigger than last weekend’s demonstration, which attracted 50 000 – 100 000 supporters”, said the BBC’s David Stern from Kiev.

Jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko urged pro-Europeans from all around Ukraine to gather in the capital on Sunday.

Some western leaders, including the US Ambassador to Kiev, have criticized the authorities for using excess violence to disperse the demonstrators.

Sunday’s protest is planned to start at 12 AM local time.
