Over 12 000 people in northeastern Bulgaria remain without electricity as a result of the heavy snowfall over the past days.

The strong winds have also contributed for the damage of electric wires, revealed Energo-PRO Varna.

The affected towns and villages are 16 in the Ruse region, 9 in Gabrovo, 9 in Veliko Tarnovo, and 6 in Razgrad.

Emergency teams are working to solve the breakdown and citizens are expected to have electricity by the end of Wednesday.

Some electric malfunctions have also been reported in the southern Smolyan villages of Sokolovtsi and Momchilovtsi.

For a short period overnight, the telephone lines of the medical emergency center in Ruse's Drujba district went down, but were quickly fixed, reports Dnes.bg.
