A large group of popular Bulgarian actors, theater directors and filmmakers have joined Monday the antigovernment protest of university students and lecturers.

As lectures from different Sofia universities staged on the square in front of the Bulgarian Parliament a silent "sitting" vigil against police brutality, the artists arrived chanting "We Are with You" and "Resignation."

White lanterns were released in the air on the square in front of the Monument of Tsar Liberator in Sofia as symbol of the requested change.

The oldest and most prestigious high education institution in Bulgaria Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski, marks on November 25, 125 years since its establishment.

The official celebrations were led by the President of the school Prof Ivan Ilchev and came just days after its blockade by students, protesting against the government, was partially lifted.

Only the aula remained occupied, but it was freed by the students Monday in order to not obstruct the ceremony. Not even a single Bulgarian politician attended it.

University students also staged several actions.

Before their teachers' rally, the protesting students managed to cross the iron fences guarding the Parliament building from demonstrators and to enter the so-called security zone.

They displayed a large banner reading "The Fences Are in Your Minds; There Are No Boundaries for Our Spirit!"

Another group of 70 people demonstrated in Sofia's Studentski Grad (College Town) district, where the dorms and several campuses are located.

Their march started from the University for National and World Economy. The group entered the campus and reached the office of the Prime Minister in the Socialist-endorsed government, Plamen Oresharski, who is also a lecturer at the school, shouting "Resignation!"

After that they blocked a key intersection in the district for several minutes, chanting: "Wake up College Town!"
