Most of the migrants entering Bulgaria are Syrian asylum-seekers, according to the Balkan country’s State Agency for National Security (DANS).

The Agency’s report on the ongoing migrant influx in Bulgaria was presented on Wednesday at the sitting of the Consultative Council on National Security.

The report noted that the number of Afghan migrants illegally entering the country has increased recently.

Smaller increases have been also registered in the number of migrants from Algeria, Somalia, Myanmar, Congo and Nigeria, among others.

Most illegal migrants enter Bulgaria through its border with Turkey, the report said.
The migrants arriving in Bulgaria include mainly children, unmarried men aged between 15 and 30, and women, according to the report.

They are often poor and uneducated, with their main goal being to reach Central and Western Europe, according to DANS.
