A passenger airliner crashed while landing in the city of Kazan and all 50 people aboard are believed to have been killed.

The Boeing 737, operated by the regional Tatarstan airline, had taken off from Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport, and was reportedly trying to land but exploded on impact, according to the BBC News.

The aircraft carried 44 passengers and 6 crew members.

The plane crashed at about 7:20pm local time on Sunday.

Russian officials told local media there were no survivors.
