State servants, who participate in antigovernment protests, should be fired from their posts, Bulgarian Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, has hinted.

The information was reported by Darik radio Friday. The radio has also provided a recording of Oresharski's statement, which was made during a meeting with NGOs supporting the Socialist-backed government.

The PM has said that there were State employees, who are still keeping their jobs, despite evidence they had participated in protest rallies in front of the government headquarters in the capital Sofia, and there was "operative data" about others.

"Regarding individuals, whom you designate as working against the government, we strive to choose the best staff so that we can free the administration from politically biased people. Maybe sometimes we are not successful in this. I will refrain from mentioning particular names, but we do strive to release such people. According to me, sabotaging the activity of any institution is not the best way for a State servant to carry out their job responsibilities.

The statement comes on the heels of a letter of the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party in Sofia to all district party heads to bring to the mass partisan rally, staged by the Socialists in Sofia Saturday, all who have applied for jobs in the State Administration.

Under the law, all Bulgarians, except police and army employees, have the right to protest.
