The draft budget for 2014 is feasible, according to the Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.

The PM defended the draft budget during its discussion in Parliament on Thursday morning, noting education, healthcare, and social welfare as the key areas.

“This budget gives us more room for social security and support for the most vulnerable groups. Also, it predisposes more funds for vocational and higher education”, stated Oresharski.

The budget would also give municipalities some more “breathing space”, through more channels for direct government funding.

It envisions a GDP growth of 1.8% and a state debt of BGN 18 B by the end of 2014.

Plamen Oresharski added that these tense times do not allow for more ambitious goals than those currently put forth.
