Center-right party GERB will boycott the appointment of a successor of Deputy Parliament Speaker Hristo Biserov on Tuesday, according to GERB leader Boyko Borisov.
Borisov made clear that MPs of GERB were not going to register for voting on Tuesday.
At a meeting with GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) members from Veliko Tarnovo at a seminar in Stara Zagora on Sunday, Borisov said that GERB was not going to take part in an election aimed at serving the interests of backstage politics, until liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) shed light on the resignation of Biserov as Deputy DPS Chair and Deputy Parliament Speaker.
Bulgaria's prosecuting authority is investigating Biserov on suspicion of money-laundering and tax fraud.
Borisov refuted the claims of DPS Chair Lyutvi Mestan that he knew nothing about Biserov's case, adding that the two had been "a unique tandem in Parliament."
The leader of GERB, as cited by dnevnik.bg, argued that the ruling coalition was becoming even more disgusting to people.
He said that DPS had stepped up pressure on the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), reminding that the socialist-led government consisted of ministers from DPS, except for one, Angel Naydenov, who had been nominated by BSP.
The leader of GERB pointed out that nobody would be willing to rule Bulgaria by September 2014, taking into account what was happening during the rule of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, BSP, DPS, and nationalist party Ataka.
Commenting on the ongoing occupation of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" by students demanding the resignation of the government and the dissolution of Parliament, he claimed that a number of intellectuals and certain political parties had to feel ashamed.
He said that the protest of Bulgarian students had become a leading topic in European and international media outlets, adding that the ones attempting to put a stain on the protest were shameless people.
