The man who stabbed a young Bulgarian store clerk in Sofia on Saturday has confessed to the attack and will remain in custody.

Salahedin bin Aladdin was arrested in Greece on Wednesday, after he had escaped the Bulgarian authorities.

The Algerian national admitted to have carried out the attack, in which 20-year old Victoria Hristova was injured. Her life is in stable condition according to the medics treating her.

The authorities also possess video material, which clearly shows bin Aladdin as the perpetrator. He also revealed that the clerk had uttered insults towards him, which had caused him to pull out a knife.

Bin Aladdin does not have permanent residence in Bulgaria and had been awaiting refugee status. He is charged with attempted murder and robbery.
