Bulgaria: Citizens Want Sofia Subway CEO Fired over Free Partisan Newspaper “Newspaper for the Subway”, whose editions do not specify an editorial team or a publisher, is almost completely identical with ultranationalist party Ataka’s mouthpiece. Image by Facebook

Bulgarians have voiced their discontent over a free newspaper distributed in the capital Sofia’s subway, demanding the resignation of subway CEO Stoyan Bratoev.

It has turned out that “Newspaper for the Subway”, whose editions do not specify an editorial team or a publisher, is almost completely identical with ultranationalist party Ataka’s mouthpiece.

Bulgaria’s anti-government press office, which was founded during the ongoing anti-government protests in the country, has posted pictures proving that the content of “Newspaper for the Subway” is virtually 100% identical to that of the “Ataka” newspaper.

Protesting citizens have sent a letter to Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, declaring that the case of political propaganda is “unacceptable, especially when it comes to a xenophobic and radical party like Ataka.”

“Turkey Sends Us Hundreds of Africans,” reads one of the headlines on the front page of “Ataka” and “Newspaper for the Subway”.

Both papers have printed conspiracy theories attempting to discredit the ongoing protests.

While not officially in power, the ultranationalist Ataka party is a key ally of the country’s embattled Socialist-led government.
