Bulgaria: Suspected Stabber of Bulgarian Store Clerk Arrested in Greece Photo, released by police, of the man who attacked with a knife a young female store clerk in the Bulgarian capital Sofia

The prime suspect for Saturday's stabbing of a young Bulgarian store clerk was arrested in Greece, revealed the Interior Ministry.

Bulgaria's Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Svetlozar Lazarov, shared details about the capture of Algerian national Salahedin bin Aladdin.

Lazarov said that the Bulgarian police had followed a lead since Sunday, when the suspect was believed to have been seen in Plovdiv, reports Focus agency.

By the time the authorities had arrived, the suspect had already boarded a taxi towards the Greek border. Attempts to siege the man at the village of Mezzek also proved unfruitful.

"We had information that the suspect was trying to escape to Cyprus, through Greece. Our fast coordination with the Greek colleagues initiated a dual search operation. Around 8:40 PM on Tuesday, the Greeks signaled the capture of bin Aladdin", said Lazarov.

The suspect is to be transferred to Sofia on Wednesday, and officially charged.

The Algerian, who had not received refugee status in Bulgaria, is believed to be behind the stabbing of 20-year old store clerk Victoria Hristova, in Sofia's Pirotska Street.

Hristova was taken to the emergency "Pirogov" hospital in serious condition, but without danger to her life. The young woman is expected to be released within a few days, doctors say.
