The Union of Democratic forces, a marginal Bulgarian right-wing party, has become the latest political outfit to voice concern over an incident involving an Algerian national.

UDF has urged President Rosen Plevneliev to summon a meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security over what it perceives as “the government’s full incapability” to deal with the immigrant situation in the country.

The announcement comes two days after an Algerian immigrant allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old shopkeeper in Sofia.

The incident was followed by a wave of xenophobic discontent in the Balkan country, with extremist parties staging an anti-immigrant hate rally in Sofia on Sunday.

The suspect for the attack is yet to be arrested.

Bulgaria has seen a considerable increase in the influx of asylum-seekers and immigrants over the past few months.
