Bulgaria’s Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation over the attack against Levski’s former coach by angry fans.

Bulgaria’s Prosecution will investigate the assault on former head coach of Levski Sofia, Ivaylo Petev, announced the team's CEO, Konstantin Bazhdekov at a press conference.

Employees of the football club that witnessed the attack have been asked to testify.

Ivaylo Petev was unveiled on Tuesday as Levski Sofia's new coach, before a group of angry fans stormed the press conference and stripped his team shirt.

They were protesting against his alleged affiliation to rivals CSKA.

Following the assault Petev stepped down from his new post on Wednesday.

Levski’s president Todor Batkov described the incident as “an act of hooliganism”, but pointed out that the club’s management won’t initiate any actions regarding the incident.
