The European Union should assist Bulgaria in coping with the ongoing Syrian refugee influx, according to Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria Shaul Kamisa-Raz.

The Ambassador told reporters that he respects Bulgaria’s efforts to accommodate Syrian refugees, noting that the Balkan country is under great pressure.

“Some of the refugees may integrate in the Bulgarian society, but this will be a very difficult task for the government,” he said, according to the BGNES news agency.

Kamisa-Raz urged caution, since radicalized elements may make use of the refugee wave and enter the country.

“Our nation and our government are sympathetic to the suffering of millions of Syrians, and especially to the over 2 million refugees who moved to various places around the world. There is an open door on our border for the Syrians who are wounded and seeking shelter,” the Israeli Ambassador said.
