Syrian refugees from the reception center Pastrogor near Bulgaria's border with Turkey have staged a protest on Thursday.

The request of the Syrians is to be moved to the shelters in Sofia, where they claim the process for receiving refugee status is quicker, reports mediapol.bg.

Another cause for concern in Pastrogor is the capacity of the center. It is constructed to host a maximum of 270-300 persons, but has been accommodating around 500 for the past few months.

Some residents have been waiting for their asylum applications to be processed by the State Agency for Refugees for 4-5 months.

Last week, a new facility for receiving refugees opened doors in Sofia's Vrazhdebna neighborhood. Approximately 500 persons have been sheltered there.
