Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres have discussed the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis, according to Plevneliev’s press office.

Plevneliev informed Gutteres about the measures undertaken by Bulgaria to accommodate Syrian asylum seekers, noting that the capacity of the country’s temporary accommodation facilities has been already exhausted.

“There is not fast solution to this crisis, so Bulgaria has to be ready to act responsibly and adequately,” the Bulgarian President said.

Plevneliev and Gutteres agreed that Bulgaria should seek all possible forms of aid in order to deal with the refugee influx.

Plevneliev declared that his country would prove itself as an example of hospitality, tolerance and humanity.

The Bulgarian government decided Wednesday to open two new refugee shelters for asylum seekers.

Bulgarian officials have said the country may have to provide shelter for as many as 10,000 Syrians by the end of the year. -
