Bulgarian journalist Rosen Tsvetkov is among the winners of the 2013 CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism.

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the German political foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) announced the winners in the two categories “Professional Journalists” and “Young Professional Journalists”.

Tsvetkov, who is a journalist at the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), was among the 41 nominated reporters in the “Young Professionals” category. His successful investigative documentaries about illegal vote buying, missing people, children trafficking, and youth violence earned him the high honor.

“His work provoked public debates and political reactions on the importance of democratic values and civil society rights”, wrote CEI & SEEMO in their official announcement.

“I will keep on doing investigative journalism, in order to show the truth to our viewers and to the international community. I hope my work will provoke more than just viewer reactions, but also lead to strict enforcement of laws and justice”, commented Tsvetkov.

The award for Professional Journalist goes to Mahir ?ahinovi? from the Center for Investigative Reporting in Sarajevo (CIN) and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). One of the recent and remarkable works he carried out is linked to an international stock exchange scam, which had a Europe-wide resonance.

Mahir ?ahinovi? and Rosen Tsvetkov will officially receive the awards offered by the CEI (EUR 4,000 and EUR 1,000 respectively) on the occasion of the VII South East Europe Media Forum (SEEMF) to be held in Sarajevo on 7-8 October 2013.
