US senator John McCain is revising the draft US senate resolution on Syria to accomodate Russia's proposal for an international control over Syria's chemical arsenal.
If carried out, the proposal will avert a US military intervention in the Syrian conflict, after the US government said it has enough evidence to believe that the Syrian government has carried out a chemical attack.
Speaking for CBS, McCain said he is nevertheless "skeptical" on the possibility of a diplomatic resolution of the Syrian crisis.
But he also said that "it would be a mistake" to stop working on that opportunity.
The draft resolution that McCain is envisioning will require a strict timeline of Syria's handing down of its chemical weapons.
