Syrian Opposition 'Disappointed' with US Strike Delay

World | September 1, 2013, Sunday // 16:10

The Syrian opposition is disappointed by the US giving up of intentions for immediate intervention in the conflict and President Barack Obama's decision to ask Congress first.

At the same time, the opposition said it hopes that the US lawmakers will give green ligth to the operation.

The US move is seen as a "delay" that can "embolden" embattled Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, said a senior opposition representative Sunday.

Friday US Secretary of State John Kerry gave a lengthy speech, claiming that the US had enough evidence to be sure that Assad mounted an attack using chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict.

Kerry argued that the USA have a moral obligation to act and not leave unanswered this breach of rules of war.

But later US President Obama said that he cannot mount a military intervention before first asking the legislative.

A similar move by UK PM David Cameron earlier this week lead to British MPs rejecting Britain's participation in a possible operation in Syria.
