A toll tax is likely to be implemented for passing through Bulgarian Hemus highway in northern Bulgaria that connects the capital Sofia with the Black Sea city of Varna , according to Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister.

The long-delayed Hemus highway will be completed with concession money and other alternative sources of financing, meaning that a toll tax will be introduced, announced Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Desislava Terzieva onThursday, as cited by Bulgarian News Agency BGNES.

“It is certain that the issues concerning the vignettes and the toll taxes will be brought to the agenda and they will be discussed in an open dialog”, commented the minister, stating that financing from EU funds could not be expected.

The construction of a 5-km-long section of the Hemus highway connecting the Bulgarian towns of Belokopitovo and Kaspichan has been launched.
