Bulgaria Expects Boost in Winter Tourism with Increased Foreign Visitors
Bulgaria is expecting a boost in winter tourism this year, with about 3.1 million foreign visitors projected between December and March
Bulgaria should express support for the international coalition for action against Syria,
Dr. Solomon Passy, founder and President of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria and former foreign minister, argues.
“The situation in Syria has deteriorated to the extreme, so military action against Syria is necessary even in the absence of agreement at the UN Security Council,” Solomon Passy told the morning broadcast of Nova TV channel on Wednesday.
“Syrian people are exposed to the worst of threats possible and there remained no other way out of this situation except military intervention," said Passy.
"But the fact that Bulgaria will participate in a military coalition would in no way put at risk its security. We can not have a leading role in this conflict, but we must be part of an active coalition.”
Passy warned that the country will be hit by a huge wave of refugees coming from Syria through Turkey.
The former foreign minister's comments came just hours after US Vice President Joe Biden signaled that the United States - with its allies - was ready to act.
"Those who use chemical weapons against defenseless men, women and children should and must be held accountable," Biden said in a speech to the American Legion.
The vice president's remarks echoed those made by other US officials in recent days, as well as many of the nation's foremost allies.
The Syrian government has strongly denied claims it used chemical weapons.
UN weapons inspectors are set to return to the site of last week's suspected attack near Damascus on Wednesday.
Their evidence-gathering visit was delayed by a day after they were fired on.
The United States, meanwhile, is conducting its own investigation. The intelligence report will include forensic evidence and intercepted communications among Syrian military commanders, according to unnamed officials, as cited by CNN.
