News of the unrest in their home country has prompted more than one hundred Bulgarians to organize a special event in the western US city of San Francisco, celebrating everything that keeps the nation together in these tough times.

San Francisco was the first American city where Bulgarians backed the international protest DANSwithme against the oligarchy and organized rallies mirroring the events in the country, calling for Bulgarian Socialist-endorsed government of Plamen Oresharski’s resignation.

On Sunday more than a hundred Bulgarian nationals gathered in San Francisco’s Holy Cross Monastery dancing Bulgarian national dance horo and saying a prayer for the Bulgarian people.

The celebration’s goal was to show to the whole world that Bulgarians are a united nation which has preserved itself during the centuries thanks to its strong connections with culture, reported a Bulgarian women living in the US and actively participating in the frequently organized abroad rallies backing the ongoing anti-government protests in Bulgaria.

Bulgarians from several American districts -Santa Cruz, Denville El Dorado, Sunny Valley, Sacrаmento, as well as native Americans - joined the event.

Traditional Bulgarian music played by American musicians, national instruments like the typical for the Bulgarian Rodopi mountain region, the so-called gaida, played by Brus Kohran, who is “in love” with everything that comes from the Balkan country’s culture, dances and garment shows backed Bulgarian migrants’ efforts to show that despite time and distance, Bulgarian nation is still united.

Meanwhile, Bulgarian immigrants in the biggest Canadian city of Toronto also gathered Sunday to protest against Oresharski government, demanding transparent, competent and fair ruling of a new cabinet.
