Lon Snowden, the father of fugitive former NSA employee  Edward Snowden, has gotten in touch with his son via the Internet, according to Russian media.

Lon Snowden decided on the move because his fatherly feelings proved stronger than security considerations, his son’s attorney, Anatoly Kucharena, has told RIA Novosti.

Previous media reports said Lon Snowden had communicated with his son via a protected Internet channel using encrypted messages.

Prior to that he had only communicated with his son through Kucherena. Edward Snowden is currently in a safe place, undertaking an adaptation course, and is OK,  Kucharena said.

Snowden was granted asylum by Russia on August 1 after reportedly spending more than a month living inside the transit zone of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
