Ex-Economy Minister: Bulgaria Unlikely to Enter Eurozone in Early 2025
In a recent interview on Nova TV, former Minister of Economy Bogdan Bogdanov expressed skepticism regarding Bulgaria's prospects of entering the Eurozone at the outset of 2025
Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has proposed cooperation with the Reformist Bloc, a brand new informal coalition of mostly right-wing opposition parties formed during the ongoing anti-government protests in the country.
Borisov believes his center-right GERB party and the Reformist Bloc should prepare a joint plan for taking down the government and forming a future ruling coalition.
The former PM pointed out that the center-right political spectrum was far bigger than the left-wing one in Bulgaria – but he said it remained too fragmented.
“No one can defeat the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms alone,” Borisov told reporters, referring to the ruling Socialist-led coalition.
The Reformist Bloc currently consists of the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party (DSB), the Bulgaria for Citizens party of former European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva, the Greens party, the National Party Freedom and Dignity and the right-wing Blue Unity party.
Reforming Bloc representatives have ruled any cooperation with GERB on several occasions over the past few weeks.
Thursday marks the 56th day of protest rallies against Bulgaria’s Socialist led government. The mass protests were prompted by a series of highly controversial appointments and wider concerns about corruption.
Borisov and his GERB government resigned amid mass protests against corruption and high electricity bills back in February.
