The leader of the opposition center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, and former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, firmly opposed Friday having a parliamentary summer break.
Borisov and his party want the Members of the Parliament to keep convening in August to work on the Election Code amendments; the government to resign after that and to hold snap general elections.
"I have no idea what made them so tired. We have worked every day in GERB headquarters. They are discussing my tan, but I am tanned not because I went to the beach, but because of my father's genes," said he, stressing it was not GERB wanting the resignation of the Socialist-endorsed government of Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, but the thousands of protesters relentlessly taking to the streets for over 40 days.
The former PM blasted the actualization of Budget 2013 masterminded by the current Cabinet as it includes taking a BGN 1 B loan, half of which will be slated for the fiscal reserve.
"There is no logic in this – freezing half billion in the fiscal reserve will not bring any revenues, while Bulgarian taxpayers will end up paying interest on this loan. They will do something murky with the other half billion, but I don't yet know what," stated Borisov.
He promised GERB have returned to the Parliament to stay for all sessions now.
Borisov issued in June an order to all GERB MPs to not attend any plenary hall sittings, except those focusing on Election Code amendments, but has obviously decided to backtrack on it under the pressure of the EU, as it emerged from his words Thursday.
