A 12-meter cross featuring a crucified Jesus Christ has been installed at a roundabout in the Bulgarian town of Elin Peli
A horrific traffic accident has added to the "road war" dead toll by taking the lives of five young Bulgarian people Tuesday morning.
Four young men, between the ages of 18 and 22, and a 16-year-old girl perished in the crash, which occurred near the town of Elin Pelin, in Sofia region, around 7:30 am.
The young people have gotten into a BMW from the parking lot of the local stadium half hour after midnight to test the powerful engine. The car was driven by its owner.
According to unconfirmed reports, he tried to avoid hitting a stray dog on the road, lost control, and crashed in a concrete wall. No other vehicle has been involved.
Police cruisers, fire trucks and ambulances are at the scene. The authorities are probing the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, a chain crash on Bulgaria boulevard in the capital Sofia, involving six vehicles, caused huge traffic jams during Tuesday morning rush hour. No injuries have been reported.
