The full ban on smoking in public places in Bulgaria ought not to be lifted, stated Bulgarian Minister of Health Tanya Andreeva.
Speaking in an interview for Darik Radio Saturday, Andreeva confirmed her position, voiced earlier this week.
"It was a tough task to pass that law, and when we have achieved something positive, there is no need to step back," said the Bulgarian Health Minister.
The legislative act was passed during the term in office of Bulgaria's previous cabinet of center-rightists GERB.
The now ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party has suggested it is willin to review and tone down the ban, but of late appears to have backtracked.
In the interview Saturday, Andreeva even said she intends to propose higher fines for breaking the smoking ban to ensure better compliance.
